Engagement Ring Advice
CHOOSING THE PERFECT RING

HOW TO BEGIN
We recommend first taking time to browse the URSA website online, to short list the styles or designs you initially like the look of. Are you looking for an organic or geometric design? A coloured stone or white? Is there a particular stone that has significance to you and your partner?
Thinking about your daily life is also important, as this is something you will wear everyday – are you someone who wears a lot of rings, so a chunkier ring will be no problem to wear, or would you prefer something subtle? These are all questions that are worth considering – you are welcome to email store@ursalondon.com with any questions you may have.
STONE CHOICES

Our designers work with a selection of different gemstones, in a range of cuts and colours. Diamonds are a classic choice, but as well as traditional white, coloured diamonds can come in an array of shades (such as orange, red, yellow, green, champagne, cognac). Diamonds are robust gemstones, perfect for everyday wear. Rubies and sapphires are also perfect choices, as they are very hard stones, so perfect for an engagement ring.
Garnets, Aquamarines and Tourmalines are softer stones, but still good choices for engagement rings, if treated with care.
Very soft stones, such as opals, pearls and emeralds are more suitable for cocktail or occasion rings, although they can be worn in engagement rings if treated with extra care.
If you’re not sure what the best option would be for you, we are here to answer your questions – email store@ursalondon.com
There’s also the possibility of remodelling an inherited ring / inherited stone? The majority of our designers can incorporate your heirloom stone into one of their designs. Please contact us for further details.
PLANNING A PROPOSAL
If you are surprising your soon to be fiancée with an unexpected proposal, we recommend purchasing one of our in stock engagement rings. Then, once you have proposed, the ring can either be sized or exchanged for a different style, within 14 days of purchase. Simply email us at store@ursalondon.com when you order, to let us know that you are planning on proposing, so that the ring may come back for a resize, or be exchanged for a different style.
All Made to Order or Bespoke styles are non-exchangable and non-refundable, so we always recommend proposing with an in stock ring, for flexibility.
Please note that if exchanging, the proposal ring must be returned to URSA in an unworn state, as any damage / wear and tear affects our ability to exchange the ring.
RING SIZE
It’s highly unlikely that you know your partners ring size if it’s a surprise, and it’s hard to guess without measuring their finger. URSA would always recommend proposing with the style of ring you like, regardless of the size in stock, as this ring can then be sized or made to order in the correct ring size. The process with each designer is different, so we can talk you through this in full, when you have decided on the perfect ring.
METAL CHOICES
Choosing the right metal for your ring is really important. Our designers work in a variety of metals; including yellow, rose or white gold in 9ct, 14ct or 18ct, in addition to platinum or palladium.
Every metal has its positives and negatives, please read the METAL GUIDE for our overview, or contact for more details.
